Wood Ovens have been around for 3,000 years or more. The shape evolved in Egypt and around the Mediterranean, and was independently developed by the Turkish peoples of the Balkans to become the standard shape in Europe. Excavations around Pompeii show that the Romans had been using this basic cooking for a long time. 

Back in the early 1950's Ernesto Di Fiore started designing and constructing these prefabricated Al Forno wood fired ovens in his factory near Cupra Marittima on the Adriatic coast after many years of constructing wood ovens. Three generations later the Di Fiores are still producing one of the finest designed and constructed wood fired ovens available.

Al Forno's clever modular design means an end to clumsy and costly installation problems associated with already built up wood ovens (if they are built properly they are very heavy) - no need for expensive and hazardous heavy lifting cranes or hiabs. Therefore our wood ovens can be installed anywhere on your property.

In addition, Al Forno wood ovens can be constructed in a dramatically shorter time - usually 1 to 1.5 days -  allowing you more time to enjoy your sensational Al Forno wood fired oven! You can still get the experience of 'building' your own oven and avoid all those problems that come with inexperience (DYI instructions avaliable). All too often you hear " I'm going to build a wood oven this summer". Didn't you hear that last summer....? Just get on with it and enjoy.

Al Forno wood fired ovens are made from top quality modern refractory material giving them the density requirements and ability to absorb and store heat energy, radiating it back into the Al Forno oven. Also the internal dome shape, ceiling height (in relation to oven size) and venting give the Al Forno ovens greater efficiency.
